Justin Trudeau denies a voice for Burnaby South

October 29, 2018

Burnaby South without a Member of Parliament for at least the end of the year

BURNABY, BC – Jay Shin, Conservative Party of Canada candidate in Burnaby South, issued the following statement in reaction to the Prime Minister calling a by-election only in the electoral district of Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes:

“There are currently four electoral districts in Canada that are not represented with a Member of Parliament.  The Prime Minister had a choice to give voters in these four areas their democratic right to elect a Member of Parliament to represent them, but Justin Trudeau has denied the voters of Burnaby South a choice.  The residents of Burnaby South will not be represented in Ottawa for at least the rest of 2018.

Burnaby South’s voters need a Member of Parliament to ensure their views are heard when the government tables its 2019 Budget and finishes its legislative agenda in the spring.  Justin Trudeau has once again failed the voters of Burnaby South by denying them a voice in the House of Commons.  I call upon the Prime Minister to give the voters of Burnaby South a voice in the House of Commons as soon as possible in a by-election, by calling a by-election in the remaining empty electoral districts.”
